A COGNITIVE INVESTIGATION INTO EXPRESSIONS OF PATH MOTION IN VIETNAMESE Phan Thi Huong􏰆, Le Thi Thuy Ha􏰆 Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into how Vietnamese people express motion using path verbs. The study is based on the theory of lexicalization patterns, which are key to understanding the con􏰅ation of semantic components into linguistic units. The data, meticulously collected from 12 Vietnamese stories and three novels from the 20th century onwards, provide a robust foundation for the research. The 􏰇ndings reveal several lexicalization patterns of semantic components within path verbs and spatial prepositions. This research also explores the construction grammar of lexical expressions of path motion in Vietnamese, o􏰈ering insights into the speakers’ knowledge of motion and its utilization in expression.
