Phan Thi Huong, Le Thi Thuy Ha
Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into how Vietnamese people express motion using path verbs. The study is based on the theory of lexicalization patterns, which are key to understanding the conation of semantic components into linguistic units. The data, meticulously collected from 12 Vietnamese stories and three novels from the 20th century onwards, provide a robust foundation for the research. The ndings reveal several lexicalization patterns of semantic components within path verbs and spatial prepositions. This research also explores the construction grammar of lexical expressions of path motion in Vietnamese, oering insights into the speakers’ knowledge of motion and its utilization in expression.
