This study aims at investigating textual equivalence, with a particular focus on cohesion, between an Australian short story, Going Home, written by Archie Weller and its Vietnamese version translated by Trinh Lu. The ground for investigation in this study is the system of cohesive markers suggested by Halliday M.A.K. & Hasan R. (1976) and the notion of equivalence proposed by Baker M. (1992). It is conducted under the quantitative method of collecting and analysing data and is supplemented by the qualitative method of discussions with colleagues in the field to get their ideas and opinions on related issues. The cohesion patterns will indicate textual equivalence between the original story and its Vietnamese translation and suggest some implications for teaching and learning of translation as well as teaching and learning of English in general and cohesion in particular
