Abstract: Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, Japan intensified its “return to Asia” strategy, attempting to assert itself in the competition for leadership positions in East Asia. In that context, Vietnam played an important role in Japan's foreign policy goals. Entering the 21st century, Japan-Vietnam relations developed comprehensively and achieved many important accomplishments. This article refers to the Japan-Vietnam partnership relations in various fields; pointing out the strategies and proposing how Japan can manage the operation of soft power in relations with Vietnam
