Difficulties encounted by EFL freshman in learning reading skills

The study aims to investigate the difficulties encounted by EFL freshman in learning reading skills. This survey research involved 56 first year students at Vinh University. The data were collected from a survey. The findings revealed that the students faced several difficulties related to vocabulary, grammar, discourse structure, background knowledge, and reading skills. By finding out these difficulties, the author hopes to help teachers understand their students’ reading skill problems. The teachers, therefore, will be able to help their students overcome these ones. On the basis of the findings, some implications were also suggested for better results in teaching reading skill in the EFL context
