PISA-based exercises generally consist of two parts: an introduction and a
question section similar to the PISA exercise format. The former part often
makes use of problematic situations associated with practice while the latter
aims at training students' ability to apply knowledge, reason, and solve
scientific problems. This study proposes a process to design PISA-based
exercises in teaching Physics in order to develop physical competence for
high school students, including the following 5 steps: Determine the exercise
purposes; Select situations associated with practice; Determine the level and
type of question; Prepare a set of questions related to the situation; Pilot and
adjust the designed exercise. The proposed process is illustrated through the
development of PISA-based exercises in teaching the “Ideal gas” topic
(Physics 12). In order for the process of developing students' physical capacity
to be highly effective, in teaching Physics, teachers need to use appropriate
teaching methods and techniques to promote learners’ initiative, enthusiasm
and passion for learning.
