Some types of exercises to assess natural science competency for junior high school students according to the PISA approach

The article focuses on analyzing the natural science competencies for secondary school age with the specific competencies, criteria and expression level according to the PISA approach. Based on that, we proposes a number of exercises to evaluate each component competency according to the content of the natural science subject curriculum, including: (1) Exercise for assessing cognitive ability of natural science; (2) Exercise assessing the competence of natural sciences language; (3) Exercise assessing the competence to explore and discover some objects and phenomena in the natural world; (4) Exercise assessing the capacity to use natural science knowledge to solve problems that occur in real life; (5) Exercise assessing the competence to conduct experiments; (6) Exercise assessing the competence to apply the practice of natural science experiments to explain practical applications; (7) Exercises to assess the competence to collect, process data and empirical information on natural sciences; (8) Exercise assessing the competence to use empirical data and information. Each type of exercise includes examples of illustration and analysis, by assessing that students achieve the criteria of natural science competency when solving these types of exercises.
