We investigated current status as well as constraints and suggested feasible solutions to promote organge production in Nghe An Province. Data was collected from 10 involved departments (5 at province level and 5 at district level) and reliable personal interviews. Results showed that, in recent duration of 5 years (from 2012 to 2016), land area used for orange production, fruit productivity and total fruit yield increased 1.79, 1.25 and 1.23 folds, respectively. Total land area used for orange production, fruit productivity and total fruit yield in 2016 were 4,757 ha, 15.52 tone/ha and 32,310 tones, respectively. Three orange cultivars grown mainly in Nghe An Province in 2016 were
“xa Doai” (~ 48.44% of total land area used for orange production), “Van Du” (21.90%) and Valencia (15.56%). We discussed 6 main constraints and suggested 7 solutions to promote orange production in order to fulfill the target of 5.150 ha used for orange production in Nghe An in 2020.
