This article, to begin with, aims to draw an outline of Faulkner criticism in the world. Scholarship trends as well as the historical development of Faulkner studies are recorded and generalized. The overview of Faulkner studies worldwide contributes to evaluate the reception of Faulkner in Vietnam. Noticeably, the interdiscipline approach, especially cultural studies, rather than “close reading” approach, is now prominent in worldwide scholarship. Meanwhile, this approach is still modest in Vietnam, and it seems reasonable to expect more work along this line. This study not only provides Vietnamese scholars with reference materials about Faulkner but also offers a brief speculation on where Faulkner scholarship may be going in the future in Vietnam.
