Seven known compounds belonging to the lignan, neolignan, and flavan including ficusal (1), syringaresinol (2), medioresinol (3), lariciresinol (4), secoisolariciresinol (5), vladinol F (6) and luteoliflavan (7) isolated from the methanol extract of Pandanus tonkinenis fruit were identified by analysis of their high-resolution electron spray ionization mass spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral data as well as by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature. All seven isolated compounds showed anti-inflammatory activity through their ability to inhibit NO production in RAW 264.7 cells with IC50 values ranging from 5.3 ± 0.4 µM to 125.8 ± 7,7 µM. The antioxidant activity of five compounds (2, 4, 5, 6, 7) was elucidated by the membrane lipid peroxidation inhibition assay with IC50 values in a range of 20.2 ± 1.7 µM to 128.7 ± 5.6 µM, respectively. This is the first report on structural determination and anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activities of compounds 1-7 isolated from the fruit of Pandanus tonkinenis.
